Cars Vandalized, Burglarized in Edmond Neighborhood

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- A series of car burglaries in an Edmond neighborhood has residents on their guards this weekend.

Police said as many as eight cars were burglarized in a neighborhood near Western Avenue and Memorial Road.

Neighbors said the burglars went down three neighborhood streets going car to car smashing in windows and taking whatever they could.

"They just went through whatever they could reach," said Steffnie Parsons, whose car was burglarized. "This was just eight people in one night that unfortunately woke up on a Saturday that they thought they were going to have a nice day off, and they wake up to glass by their car and things missing."

Parsons lost some money and her $2,500 laptop she used for work. Another victim was in the neighborhood visiting from out of town. Stolen from her car was valuable jewelry that belonged to her grandmother.

Many of the victims spent the day cleaning up the mess and getting their windows replaced. Gary Aldrich said it will cost him a little more than $100 to fix the broken window in his car, not to mention the items that were taken from the car including a laptop and an XM radio. Along with repairs, Aldrich's total loss will be in the thousands.

"I'm sure they'll get caught, I hope. They don't need to be on the streets like everybody else. They need to get a job," Aldrich said.

The Glass Guy's repair shop in Northwest Oklahoma City was so busy Saturday with window repairs as a result of car break-ins that they were forced to stay open well past closing time.
