OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma livestock producers who suffered a loss from the December blizzard may be eligible for assistance and not even know it.

The USDA Livestock Indemnity Program provides payments to eligible livestock owners whose animals died in excess of normal mortality because of a significant weather event. Smaller breeders may even qualify.

"It does give opportunity to a farmer or rancher who may have lost two to three head of cattle. If they have a smaller herd they may well qualify if they hit their normal mortality rate which is one-percent," said Ron Hays, agriculture expert.

The deadline to file an application is January 30th.

To find out if you're eligible, contact the Oklahoma Farm Service Agency at 405-742-1130 or check their website.
