OKLAHOMA CITY – Many metro drivers have noticed a slew of potholes left behind after the winter storm and those holey roads are keeping maintenance crews busy.
While the city has an obligation to fill them, they aren't liable for pothole repair unless they're notified that a pothole exists.
Oklahoma City has a pothole hotline, and it's been busy with 25 reports by noon Monday.
Street maintenance crews hit the pothole trail Monday morning. One in south Oklahoma City was, as far as potholes go, pretty small.
"Not big enough to swallow a car, just big enough to make your ride to work uncomfortable," said Tim Ishmael with Oklahoma City Street Maintenance.
After a week of clearing snow, crews know they have a lot of potholes to go.
"It's been about three locations today. Roads look pretty bad, so I expect it to be a lot more in the coming week," said Phillip Johnson with Oklahoma City Street Maintenance.
Once notified of a pothole, the city is liable for repair, so these crews aim to respond quickly.
"We try to work these within three working days. We try to get at least 80 percent of those. That's the measures that we're set forth by city council for us to work these by, and we try to exceed that when we can," Ishmael said.
While some potholes were a breeze, one at S. May Avenue and 44th Street was a lot worse.
"It was well over seven inches deep," Johnson said. "Quite frankly, it was enough to knock out two or three cars."
If you see potholes on city streets, call the Pothole Hotline at (405) 631-1111.
