OKLAHOMA CITY -- Thousands of the metro's less fortunate turned up for a hot, holiday meal at the City Rescue Mission.
The City Rescue Mission served up about 1,200 meals Thursday.
This year, instead of cooking the meals themselves, organizers gave the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and vegetables to local restaurants to prepare.
More than 100 volunteers came out to help serve the feast. Organizers were pleased with the turnout.
"We can communicate what the need is and the people of this city rally together like none other," said Tom Jones, City Rescue Mission president.
Earlier this week, City Rescue Mission gave out 1,500 Thanksgiving boxes to needy families. That's more than double from last year.
