OKLAHOMA CITY – Penn Square Mall has added a new security feature after a woman was attacked in the mall parking lot last holiday season.

The mall has added a security tower to the southwest corner of the parking lot.

"The tower provides officers with a vantage point 21 feet above the ground and is designed to deter criminal activity by affording a heightened level of visibility in large parking areas," according to a statement from mall management.

Penn Square shopper Jamie Gable is grateful for the new feature.

"It's absolutely necessary," Gable said. "I don't like to come to the mall at night so it's nice to know security is available."

Two days before Christmas last year, a woman attacked in the parking lot and two months later Laura Griggs was robbed at gun point.

"I never heard him coming and then all of a sudden there was a gun sticking to the back of my head and I was being pushed forward," Griggs previously told NEWS 9

In addition to the Security Tower, mall officials say they will continue to keep a heavy security presence in and around the Oklahoma City mall.
