DEL CITY, OK -- One person was killed at a vacant apartment fire Saturday morning, according to the Del City Fire Department.

The department was alerted to the blaze at Eagle Point Apartments, the 700 block of Scott Street, at about 3:51 a.m.

Arriving fire crews found five units of a 16-unit building fully involved in fire. Crews faced heavy flames and were not able to make an interior attack on the involved units.

Once crews were able to control the fire and make entry into the building, a fatality victim was located on one of the first floor units. Del City Police detectives are assisting Del City Fire Investigators.

The Medical Examiner is investigating cause of death, according to Major Brandon Pursell of the Del City Fire Department.

Eagle Point Apartments have been condemned for several months. Eight units in total were damaged by fire, and the remaining units received smoke and water damage.

Midwest City Fire assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

The cause of the fire and amount of damages are under investigation.
