OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma County judge has denied bail for a doctor who was arrested in the stabbing death of his 9-year-old son.

Stephen Paul Wolf lowered his head Wednesday morning during a video appearance before Special Judge Russell Hall. Wolf hasn't been formally charged.

Police have alleged that Wolf fatally stabbed his son, Tommy, and cut his wife at their home in Nichols Hills Monday morning.

According to an arrest affidavit, Wolf repeatedly told the police officer who stopped the attack that his son had "the devil in him."

Hall told Wolf that police will file a report with the district attorney's office, which will then determine what charge is filed.

Wolf's attorney, Mack Martin, declined comment.

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Mark Myers, Dr. Wolf has been placed on a level two suicide prevention watch.

Police said Wednesday they interviewed Wolf's wife, Mary, who was the only witness to the violent death of her son.

"She is coming to grips with this as much as anybody could under the circumstances. Her wounds do not seem to be causing her any significant problems, and I think she is going to be fine. It's going to take time," said Nichols Hills Police Chief Richard Mask. "His wife, Mary, can hopefully be the one that can shed more light on this."

One theory already dismissed by investigators was illegal drug and alcohol abuse.

"There is no reason to suspect drugs and alcohol. From everyone we interviewed he used neither," Mask said.

Chief Mask wouldn't comment on whether Wolf was taking any prescribed medications, however he did acknowledge Wolf's fragile mental state.

"I think it's pretty obvious that doctor Wolf has somewhat of a history of mental illness. That's what we're trying to determine right now, exactly why this happened and what went wrong," Mask said.

Police have not subpoenaed Wolf's medical records, but NEWS 9 learned he has been hospitalized twice within the past 25 years for depression.

Police also interviewed two other relatives and a neighbor Wednesday.
