LAWTON, Oklahoma -- A 15-year-old Lawton girl is recovering after being struck by a police car on her way to school.
Deputy Police Chief James Apple said the girl was walking to Tomlinson Middle School about 7 a.m. Thursday when she tried to avoid a mud puddle and stepped into the path of the patrol car driven by officer Keith May.
Apple said the front driver's side corner of the car hit the girl.
The victim's aunt, Darla Douglas said her niece is still in serious condition and doesn't know when the girl will be released from the hospital.
Apple said the officer wasn't speeding and is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
