CACHE, Oklahoma -- A Comanche County woman is dead and her husband clinging to life after a brutal attack inside their home.

The Comanche County sheriff said this was one of the most brutal attacks he's seen in more than 30 years of law enforcement.

"We had quite a bit of blood splatters. We had a pretty good pool of blood there by the father where he was laying there," said Comanche County Sheriff Kenny Stradley.

Fifty-five-year-old Martha Miller was beaten and raped in the attack and later died from her injuries. Her husband, 64-year-old Carl Miller, is in critical condition at a Lawton Hospital.

Investigators arrested 29-year-old Mica Martinez and said he came into the house early Monday morning and beat the couple with a rifle.

The Miller's adult son was at the home sleeping at the time when woke up and confronted Martinez as he was coming out of his mother's bedroom. The son managed to subdue him and call 911.

"While he's doing that, evidently he takes his eyes off the guy and the guy throws a barbell and he deflects it because the son has the rifle. He deflects the barbell with the rifle. Then they kept fighting and he got the rifle back from the son and started clubbing the son over the head," Stradley said.

The son's head was split open during the scuffle.

Sheriff's deputies arrived a short time later and arrested Martinez.

Investigators said they don't have a motive and don't think the family knew the suspect.

Stradley said he's thankful the son was there to come to his parents' aid.

"If the son wouldn't have been there we would probably have possibly two homicides unsolved at that point," Stradley said.

The son was treated and released from the hospital. Investigators are hoping the father can recover enough to tell them what happened.

Martinez is facing charges of murder, rape, burglary and aggravated assault and battery. Court records indicated Martinez has a history with authorities including assault and battery and a protective order issued back in May.
