If you have problems with your insurance company, there are a couple of things you can do:

Step 1:  Contact the Oklahoma Insurance Department and request their assistance.  Click here to email your request.   Per their policies, once a company receives a letter from the Department, they have 30 days to respond.  And according to Commissioner Holland herself, they're not afraid to fine a company if they choose to not respond.

Step 2:  If you're unhappy with the settlement, you can request mediation.  The Insurance Department created this program to "help unhappy consumers and insurance companies work toward an agreement that puts their conflict to rest."

The insurance commissioner has complied a list of helpful tips should you be faced with an insurance loss.  This is a great resource and you can click here for that.

Some problems may be avoided by reading your policy NOW.  If you haven't read your insurance policies in the last year, now is a great time to do it!  You don't want the first time you read them to be when you have to file a claim -then it's too late if you spot something you don't like.

Here's extra information for those who have delayed claims.
