OKLAHOMA CITY -- Military officials have confirmed a Fort Lewis Army officer from Moore has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center in Dover, Delaware, on Tuesday confirmed the death of 26-year-old 1st Lt. David T. Wright of Moore.

Military officials said Wright and fellow soldier 24-year-old Sgt. Andrew H. McConnell of Carlisle, Pennsylvania were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

Both Wright and McConnell were members of the 5th Stryker Brigade that deployed in July.

Wright was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma.

Wright's body arrived at Dover Air Force Base at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The deaths were announced the same day as a memorial at Fort Lewis for three other 5th Stryker brigade members killed August 31 in Afghanistan.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reported the 5th Stryker brigade has lost 11 soldiers since it was deployed as part of the buildup in Afghanistan

Wright's family released the following statement:

"We want to say how much we appreciate the prayers and support that has been shown to our family during this very difficult time. David was a true solider, who cherished the opportunity to fight for his country. We arrived at Dover Air Force Base this evening, where we are awaiting the arrival of David's remains later tonight. David was a very special person and cared for so many. We loved him greatly and will miss him tremendously."

Wright's family has tentatively scheduled funeral services for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Journey Church in Norman. The family said they are awaiting military confirmation before they are able to confirm the service day and time.
