Consumer Watch: Metro Child Support Collection Business Dealings Questioned

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Child support's supposed to support a child, not a company. But it's a big business and it's prompted a NEWS 9 Consumer Watch investigation.

SupportKids had more than 30,000 clients. They're an independent, for-profit company that helps collect money, and in return, keeps 34 percent of it. But last week, NEWS 9 learned the company filed bankruptcy. About four months ago they turned most of their cases over to a New Hampshire law firm. And that's when Sherri Nevarez, a Midwest City mother, started having problems. The new company won't let her out of her contract with SupportKids and they have yet to get her any money.
