MIDWEST CITY -- Fire investigators believe an appliance may have started an early morning fire that swept through a Metro apartment complex at 1527 N. Midwest Blvd.

Firefighters said the fire started around 3:30 Saturday morning. The blaze did about $250,000 worth of damage.

Fire investigators determined the fire began in a bathroom and may have been cause by an appliance that was left on.

James Degrate was in the apartment complex at the time of the fire and went around waking up his neighbor in the complex.

"Some of them didn't want to get out. It was just so early in the morning, but then when the flames started jumping over the top of the roof of the house everybody came out. We got away," Degrate said.

The Red Cross was on scene to help those families displaced by the fire.
