OKLAHOMA CITY -- The tough economy is making second hand sales more popular than ever. Metro families are seeking deals at a weeklong consignment sale at the state fairgrounds.

The Just Between Friends sale opened today to a massive line outside its doors. Shoppers know they can buy double, even triple what they could at a retail store.

"I have a hard time deciding because I'm trying to dress her not like a grandma would dress her as," shopper Nancy Atkerson said.

One shopper stocked up on fall and winter clothes for her three granddaughters and saved big bucks.

"Most of these are name brands, GAP, you can get for $5 opposed to what GAP is $40 or $50," Atkerson said.

She knows money is tight for their parents.

"They have so many other expenses and everything, this is the one thing Nana gets to do," Atkerson said.

Just Between Friends is a consignment sale with rows and rows of gently used children's clothes, furniture and toys.

"This is the biggest sale I've ever seen," volunteer Diane Nutt said. "Gymboree costumes are kind of expensive in the store," Nutt said.

Nutt is a volunteer and says JBF has more than 1,200 consigners this year, the most in sale history.

"There was not any room in these racks to shove any more hangers in so we had to build a whole row of extra racks," Nutt said.

The needs for extra racks means more of a selection for parents like Theresa Reynolds to choose from.

"We'll be loaded down before the day is over with," Reynolds said.

Just Between Friends is a godsend for many metro families who are struggling to make ends meet.

"WE had a consignor drop off clothes yesterday in tears saying how blessed she felt to have a place like this to shop her husband had just been laid off and she said ‘I know I can get quality clothes and items for my children at a great price," Nutt said.

The Tulsa JBF sale was last week, also breaking records with 1,400 consigners taking part in the sale.
