ANADARKO, Oklahoma -- Anadarko's downtown was lit by an early morning blaze Saturday that did extensive damage before firefighters got it under control at about 11 a.m.

The call came in at about 5:10 a.m. according to Captain Greg Stone of the Anadarko Fire Department.

"We've lost two buildings downtown so far," Stone said. "One is our local newspaper office. I don't know if there's damage in the adjacent buildings."

The Anadarko Daily News, a daily newspaper and the Tornado Alley bar, both one-story buildings, were destroyed in the fire.

"It took six, seven hours to get it under control," said Lieutenant Leroice Fanning.

A witness called NEWS 9 to state that flames were shooting 30 feet in the air.

By 12 p.m., firefighters on the scene and engaged in "extensive mop up," Fanning said.

Fire investigators said the fire started in Tornado Alley bar then spread across a shared roof to the Anadarko Daily News.

Fire officials said the fire was so intense that firefighters couldn't enter the building and had to call in three other departments to help.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials for the Anadarko Daily News said they paper will be up and running again on Monday.
