Various School Supply Give Away Events Hosted Across Metro

Many different organizations and companies are working to help make the beginning of school a bit easier for some metro students.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Many different organizations and companies are working to help make the beginning of school a bit easier for some metro students. They are helping give away school supplies in various locations as well as hosting school supply drives in an effort to collect as may supplies as possible for those students in need.

Child Support Services' School Supply Drive:

South Oklahoma City Child Support Office and Wal-Mart
August 15, 2009
7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Wal-Mart Super Center, Interstate 240 and S. Santa Fe

Any school supplies are appreciated. All you have to do is pick up school supplies as you visit the local Wal-Mart Super Center on I-240 for your regular or back-to-school shopping and donate them to the van. Supplies purchased in our community stay in our community to help those in need.

Feeding 5,000 and Backpack Giveaway:

We will be giving out free school supplies for the kids as long as they are accompanied by a parent, but they will also be giving out food and drinks as well.

Free Community Back to School Event:

OKDHS Rockwell Human Services Center, 7201 N.W. 10th St.

Students age 5 and older can receive free backpacks and school supplies, immunizations, health and vision screenings and iris scans. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
A therapy horse and therapy dogs will be on hand, as will representatives of the Oklahoma City Police and Oklahoma City Fire departments. Art and family activities are also planned. Free food and refreshments also will be available.

Urban League Back To School Bash:

The Back to School Bash is a FREE family friendly event that promotes a healthy start to the school year; provides information on community resources, social services, Urban League programs and health education; and provides free school supplies for children. Activities include: Free backpacks and school supplies Free health screenings Free haircuts Community resource vendors Drumline Showcase by Star Spencer HS Moonbounce, obstacle course, dance revolution, and concessions Doorprizes and more! K-12 students only. While supplies last.

Students must be accompanied by parent. Limit 4 backpacks per family.

I-35 AutoMall to give away 500 book bags full of school supplies:

I-35 AutoMall, 3333 S I-35 Service Rd, Oklahoma City. Parking is located at Balon just North of I-35 AutoMall.

Automall dealership will give 500 bags filled with school supplies to children 4-12 years old. The free school supplies are valued at over $7,500. "Everyday we see customers working hard to make ends meet and provide for their families," said Jon Schull, General Sales Manager at I-35 AutoMall. "We saw the need to help and school supplies are a great way to do that. Every child deserves to go to school equipped with the tools to learn and we want to help and it's going to be fun."

I-35 AutoMall will turn their dealership into a "Back to School" carnival to help celebrate the event. The dealership will offer free food, a children's area that includes face painting, moon bounces and interactive events, oil changes, car washes and hourly door prizes. Prizes donated include 2 Grand Prizes valued at over $500 each. "As a member of the Integrity Auto Group, our dealership's motto is 'Doing the Right Thing for Good People'," stated Jon Schull. "We have worked hard to make that mean more than what you see in advertising; doing the right thing means helping people when they need help. The school supplies are one example and as a business we are pleased to join the many churches and service organizations in the community that are helping kids."
