PAULS VALLEY, Oklahoma - A judge has denied a petition for a grand jury investigation into a Wynnewood man's death.
Friends and family of Tom Horton filled the petition earlier this month. Horton's December 2008 death was ruled a suicide, but family and friends disagree.
In a ruling issued Thursday, Judge Candace Blalock ruled that the petitioners did not have enough signatures. State law requires 16 percent of voters in the last general election. The groups needs 1,718 signatures.
They had collected 808, but according to the ruling none of those signatures could be verified.
The ruling gives the group until Aug. 24 to collect enough signatures.
