OKLAHOMA CITY -- Car experts were in Bricktown over the weekend reminding residents to check under the hood.

The mountains of snow at The Brick were for kids to play in and to remind parents that more car batteries die in July rather than January, so winter is not the only time to bring your car in for extra care.

"Heat kills batteries more than cold. Heat under the hood is going to evaporate that water out," said Interstate Battery Charlie Brim. "A battery will die 33 percent faster in the heat than in cold. That is something new I think for people because normally they think about cold weather."

More people drive during the summer months, making it even more important to keep your car's battery in tip top shape. Brim said it should be checked every 6 months.

"You can inspect the inside of the chamber there and you can see if the battery has water. You want to make sure the connections are clear of corrosion," Brim said. "And you know just inspect the battery sometimes, you will see it swell. That's a bad thing."

Keeping all of that in mind will keep you on the road and staying cool this summer.
