OKLAHOMA CITY -- Local church volunteers teamed up with the City Rescue Mission and a local ministry to cleanup downtown Oklahoma City.

The center of downtown Oklahoma City is a poverty stricken area that is notoriously known for drugs and large homelessness population.

Volunteers, the City Rescue Mission and the Refuge along with those who live on Oklahoma City's street are working to clean up downtown by picking up trash, cleaning out the underpasses, mowing lawns and painting.

Michael Jackson has been at the City Rescue Mission for almost a year and said with the help of those around him, his life is slowly coming together.

"I was able to do a lot of cleaning up around here and make Oklahoma look more like a city and a world that God created for all of us," Michael said. "My situation is just getting closer to God learning more to live right for God."

Pastor Trevor Williams with LifeChurch said he hopes this mission, no matter the size, will show how a community can change a city.

"What they need is not someone to come here and to show up with sandwiches. What they need is relationships and the willingness to engage in and talk to them to make a difference in this community," Williams said.
