PURCELL, Oklahoma - A McClain County judge has ruled that voters will decide a contract dispute between firefighters and the City of Purcell.

Judge Candace Blalock denied the firefighters union request to block Tuesday's vote on a new contract.

When firefighters and the city couldn't agree on a contract, the city council voted in April to call a special election to allow voters to decide.

The judge ruled that state law allows cities to call elections to settle these types of disputes and that the firefighters could not prove that the election would cause them irreparable harm.
