Thunderstorms and high temperatures were expected in several parts of the U.S. on Friday.
In the Southern Plains, high temperatures were again expected to break into the triple digits. Lows were expected to barely drop below 80 degrees over night in some regions.
Thunderstorms were likely through the night and into Friday morning across the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. The activity was likely pick up from there, with strong storms expected in the afternoon and evening hours. Large hail and tornadoes were possible.
Colorado's High Plains were also forecast to see strong thunderstorms, some with high winds and hail.
The Southeast was also to see thunderstorms on Friday, but brief downpours and lightning were the main concerns. They were likely to be less widespread than in recent days, and most would be along the Atlantic coast. Highs in the Northeast were expected to climb into the 70s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 112 degrees at Canadian, Texas.
