The Eastern U.S. was expected to continue seeing severe storm development on Thursday from a slow-moving low pressure system hovering over the Great Lakes region.
   Widespread scattered showers were to continue across the Northeast and New England, with moderate to heavy showers over New York.
   In the South, scattered showers and thunderstorms were possible anywhere along a front stretching from the Great Lakes down the East Coast and west into the Southern Plains. The strongest storms and heaviest rainfall was forecast for Florida.
   In the Central U.S., warm and sunny weather was expected, with highs in the Northern Plains reaching the 80s and approaching 100 in the Southern Plains.
   In the West, warm and dry conditions with above-average temperatures were on tap for the Pacific Northwest.
   Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Meacham, Ore., to a high of 106 degrees at Needles, Calif.
