OKLAHOMA CITY -- Paramedics were busy with multiple heat related calls as thousands of residents spent time outside.

As of 7 p.m. EMSA had responded to 10 calls with people overcome by the intense heat, seven rushed to the hospital.

From the HOG parade, a gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts in Bricktown, to other outdoor activities downtown plus temperatures in the 100's, resulted in heat problems for lots of people.

Despite scorching temperatures, many braved the heat in Bricktown for a little hog heaven.

Brad Bixler with EMSA said the hot temperatures have kept their paramedics busy, responding to one heat related call after another, some of those calls to the Oklahoma City Pride Festival.

"We've had a total of five patients and we had to send three out by ambulance, God knows how may minor heat related injuries," Bixler said.

Will Farr has been working as an off duty paramedic at the parade and isn't the least bit surprised by the high number of people overcome by the heat.

"I've been doing this for five years and it's the hottest pride ever," Farr said.

If you are going to be outside this weekend, don't only wear light clothes but light colors. Studies suggest you can feel up to six degrees warmer when you wear dark clothes.

Those who have experienced a heat stroke know how fast it can come on. Some obvious signs to look for are intense sweating, nausea, vomiting and dizziness.
