FARMINGDALE, New York -- The start of the now rain-delayed U.S. Open had a distinct Oklahoma State flavor.

The first group off the first tee Thursday morning was current Cowboys golfer Rickie Fowler and former OSU golfers Casey Wittenberg and Bo Van Pelt.

Fowler is an amateur who made the cut at last year's Open and was the first person to swing away from the opening hole.

It started raining two minutes later and play was stopped at 10:16 a.m. then suspended for the day more than two hours later.

No one completed more than 11 holes, and half the 156-man field didn't even start their round.

While Fowler is an amateur, Wittenberg and Van Pelt are PGA Tour veterans.
