OKLAHOMA CITY -- Actress Jessica Alba apologized Tuesday for the vandalism of downtown Oklahoma City.

The A-list actress was seen pasting posters of Great White Sharks across town, in an effort to spread awareness of the animal's depleting population.

Several pictures surfaced on the Internet of Alba's actions, prompting NEWS 9 to investigate.

"These posters were put on with a heavy-duty type glue, making them virtually impossible to remove," said Msgt. Gary Knight, of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

The cleanup process of the posters will cost the city up to $700, money the city could pay for beautification projects. The United Way's also getting publicity from Alba's stunt, including calls from angry Oklahomans.

"It really speaks to the Oklahoma attitude that we care about each other," said Bob Spinks, president of United Way of Oklahoma City.

After making her mark all over the Metro, the A-list actress is having a change of heart and has offered to donate to the United Way campaign.

"It's unfortunate that Ms. Alba chose to do this, but our focus is to remain on the people of central Oklahoma because that's what we're all about," Spinks said.

The actress' representatives said she's not in Oklahoma and will not be available for interviews.

In a statement released to Web site TMZ, Alba apologizes for the event:

"I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident."
