6-year-old Fights for Life, Cystic Fibrosis Research

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- An Edmond girl living with a deadly genetic disorder is getting support from complete strangers. Six-year-old Capri Faulk and her family have set a lofty goal of raising $200,000 to fund Cystic Fibrosis research to find a cure for her.

Every day Capri fights a disease that attacks her lungs. In the month since NEWS 9 first met Capri, her battle against Cystic Fibrosis has taken its toll.

"She had an episode where she couldn't breathe at all and she thought she was dying," said Capri's mother Nicole Faulk.

That scare has motivated Nicole and friends to work even harder to raise money for a cure.

"It hits pretty close to home. Capri is the same age as our kids so we definitely wanted to help out anyway we could," Amy England-Smith said.

Amy England-Smith is the force behind a yard sale to raise money for Capri and the group "Capri's Crusaders." Their goal is to help the six-year-old and her family raise $200,000 for Cystic Fibrosis research.

"There are times that I feel overwhelmed and think I can't get there but Amy has helped me and motivated me and says we can get there. we can do it," Capri's mom said.

Every item sold gets them closer to that goal and closer to people who know what Capri is facing.

"There is a lot of medicine involved, a lot of treatments, a daily break up of routine where you have give these treatments. It's hard on the children and just a really hard toll on family," Jim Staggs said.

Jim Staggs and his wife lost their son to Cystic Fibrosis four years ago. They came to the yard sale to support "Capri's Crusaders" in their pursuit to find a cure.

"The longer they can allow these kids to have a normal life and possibly cure the disease is the for the better," Staggs said.
