Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia remained under flood watch Thursday
night, with more heavy rain expected after midnight.
Deadly thunderstorms left a mess overnight, trees and utility lines down, one
Little League player dead and a teammate in critical condition after they were
hit by lightning.
With the rain falling again, Herndon, Virginia police are keeping a watch for
rising water. Wednesday night (06/03), at the Carpool Bar and Grill, too much
water too fast turned the parking lot into a literal car pool.
Six vehicles were trapped when a nearby creek overflowed. A Fairfax County
rescue team had to be brought in to make sure no one was inside the vehicles.
One car was nearly submerged. No one was hurt.
As the lightning-laden storms rolled into the District, the heavy rains
blotted views of the Capitol and the rest of the historic landscape.
A lightning bolt sent a tree crashing down on a car, trapping two men inside.
Firefighters had to free them. Again, no one got hurt.
The rain is back, at times sending some people running for cover.
If a little bit of water becomes a lot, it could bring on more flooding and
more damger.
