DURANT, Okla. (AP) - The president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant is resigning after a little more than one year on the job.

Michael Turner distributed a letter to university officials Tuesday saying it's with "bittersweet emotion" that he plans to step down effective June 30.

Turner cited a need to devote more time to his family, including a daughter with special needs.

Turner has served as Southeastern's president since Jan. 1, 2008. He previously served as vice president for student affairs at Rogers State University in Claremore.

The presidency became vacant in January 2007 after then-president Glen Johnson was named chancellor of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
