By News 9 Meteorologist Nick Bender It figures. Beautiful, dry, sunny, warm days seemingly lost on the work week. Now, the weekend has arrived, and so has the chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Like yesterday, pockets of showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop during the afternoon. Eastern portions of the state stand a better chance of receiving rain due to being closer to an area of low pressure spinning northward across parts of Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Some of the storms could produce locally heavy rainfall, hail and cloud-to-ground lightning. Storms will dissipate this evening with the loss of daytime heating.

Similar conditions are expected for Memorial Day with daytime highs reaching the lower 80s.

Don't let the chance of storms deter you from your Memorial Day plans, and be sure to remember why we celebrate Memorial Day. Take time to honor those that have given their lives in service to our country, and thank those men and women who currently serve in The United States Armed Forces.
