OKLAHOMA CITY -- Instead of buying a new car many people are heading to the mechanic to get more mileage out of the car they already have.

But those repairs can be costly.

Now there are new Web sites that promise to arm you with all the information you need to make sure you're charged a fair price for repairs.

There is no charge to use "repair pal" and another site driverside.com. "Fair repair" charges a fee of $9.99 estimates, which can be refunded in certain cases.

"It tells you how much you should expect to pay for parts and services and it tells you what is all included in the service," car owner Ebony Hawkins said.

The site is one of a handful designed to be a one-stop-shop for information about your car. The sites vary, offering everything from recall alerts and service reminders to customer reviews of repair shops while others let you ask a certified mechanic for advice. And all give estimates for what a repair should cost in your area.

Customer reviews and ratings may also be helpful when shopping for a mechanic, but experts say the best way to find the right place is to ask around.
