OKLAHOMA CITY - Two separate fatality accidents are causing traffic backups on Interstate 40 westbound in west Oklahoma City.
Few details of the two crashes were immediately available but the first occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mustang Road and involved a pedestrian.
"Apparently the driver, for an unknown reason, does not realize traffic is stopped ahead and slams into a blue Volkswagen and the person in the VW is the one that is killed. But that vehicle was also knocked forward striking a semi-truck," Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West said.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the road was shut down for two-and-a-half hours before reopening just before 1 p.m.
A second crash claimed at least one other life on I-40 westbound at Morgan Road -- about one mile east of the first crash.
Investigators are still working to identify the two victims before releasing their names.
