Storm Damages Elementary School in Southern Oklahoma

Healdton Elementary School was damaged by a storm this morning in southern Oklahoma.

HEALDTON, Oklahoma -- An elementary school was damaged by a storm in southern Oklahoma Wednesday morning.

Healdton Elementary School was damaged, the Carter County Sheriff's office reports. There were initial reports of minor injuries, but emergency crews said all the students are safe.

Several windows are reportedly blown out at the school, and homes and businesses in the

area also sustained wind damage, the town's fire chief said.

Healdton is about 25 miles west of Ardmore. A NEWS 9 crew is en route.

Winds gusting to 70 mph also damaged power and telephone lines.

Oklahoma Gas and Electric reports 1,441 power outages in Healdton. The town's population is just under 2,800.
