Church Protests at Capitol, Moore school

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Kansas group protested what they call Oklahomans' tolerance of the gay lifestyle Monday.

Members of the Topeka-based Westboro Baptist Church are known for protesting funerals for soldiers killed in combat. 

The group protested at the state Capitol earlier Monday afternoon and then went to Moore High School.  Shirley Phelps-Roper, a church leader, says she's angry that the Rev. Scott Jones, an openly gay pastor, was allowed to give a prayer to legislators inside the state Capitol.

She also said she thinks Oklahoma soldiers die in battle and tornados destroy communities because a higher power is punishing the state.

"What time, what time if not now for us to get there and help you connect these dots and see the impact you're having on your children because what those legislators did is directly linked to your dead children," Phelps-Roper said.

There also were two counter protests in Moore.  One was at the school. A local church also hosted a protest at Westmoore.
