Drivers Urged to Use Caution at Edmond Intersections

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Billy Horton was thrilled after receiving a brand new wheelchair purchased by complete strangers.

A series of crosswalk accidents had left his motorized wheelchair in bad shape. But, three days later, his new wheelchair was in the same shape.

Horton was hit while trying to get through the crosswalk at Kelly Avenue and Edmond Road.

He had a walk light and the driver had a green light, but was making a right turn in front of Horton when they collided in the intersection.

"I looked at the car beside me, and I didn't see their blinkers on," Horton said.

Edmond Police are not only worried about Horton, but also worried that drivers aren't watching the road and the sidewalk.

"It just goes back to the basic rule that everybody here has to watch out for everyone else," Sgt. Bob Pratt said.

After NEWS 9's first story aired, about Horton received about $1,200 in donations, which should be enough to cover the cost of the repairs.
