OKLAHOMA CITY - A fatal wreck tied up a busy expressway for more than five hours Wednesday after a man drove westbound in the eastbound lane, colliding with an oncoming vehicle.

Police said 69-year-old Henry Stokes was killed in the collision.

Oklahoma City Police received calls of a reckless driver on Northwest Expressway just before the wreck occurred.

"There were cars trying to miss him," witness Bill Olson said. "I had to get out on the shoulder so he wouldn't hit me."

The unidentified man collided head-on with Stokes, which then spun into a smaller car.

Oklahoma City Police will continue their investigation into why the driver veered off course, into oncoming traffic.

"It didn't look like he was drunk," Olson said. "It looked like he was going straight down the lane, like he didn't know it was the wrong way."

Officers said the driver going the wrong way and the victim in the car were both taken to the hospital. Stokes died at the scene.

The man driving in the opposite direction could face charges.
