Winning a Rodeo Queen title has to be easier than winning a regular beauty pageant, right?  Hardly.

Endless interviews about current events, written tests on rodeo knowledge, and fashion shows are just the tip of the iceberg.  Did I mention the dance rehearsals?

And that's all in addition to the usual visits and tours all over Oklahoma City.

Kristin Scott won the Miss Rodeo USA title at last year's rodeo.

"It's mixed emotions y'know.  You're excited, but then at the same time you see twelve girls comin' up behind you all fighting for that title," Scott said.  "It makes you a little bit sad, because you know it's about to be over."

One part of her experience that Scott definitely won't forget is her trip to The Children's Center in Bethany.  The Children's Center is a non-profit pediatric hospital that serves children with complex medical and physical disabilities.  The Miss Rodeo USA contestants visit the center each year.

Scott has visited both as a contestant, and as the reigning Miss Rodeo USA.  She believes visiting the center gives the contestants a much different perspective on the competition.

"You have to focus so much on what you're doing, you leave an interview saying 'Oh my gosh I didn't answer that question'," Scott said.  "Bringing the girls here brings you kinda more back to reality.  It says "Don't sweat the small stuff.'"

Miss Rodeo USA 2009 won't get much chance to rest.  The title requires extensive travel, mainly in representing the International Professional Rodeo Association.  The Miss Rodeo USA program also provides career advancement and scholarship awards to those competing.

Miss Rodeo USA 2009 will be crowned during the 2nd performance of the International Finals Rodeo on Saturday January 17.

The contestants vying for the title of Miss Rodeo USA 2009 are: Miss Palouse Empire Rodeo Jesse Budd, Miss National Federation of Professional Bullriders Jennifer Cox, Miss Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo Summer Davis, Miss Checotah Oklahoma Old Settler's Day Rodeo Lacey Glover, Miss Diamond H Synda Lockhard, Miss Equimedic USA Kate Moen, Miss Rodeo P.C.C.A. Rachel Oates, Miss WestStar Jamie Virden, Miss Limestone Sheriff's Rodeo Rebekah Waldrop, Miss Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Erin Watts, Gila Country Rodeo Senior Queen Avery Williams, and Gilbert Days Honorary Rodeo Queen Bailey Williams.

The International Finals Rodeo is January 16-18 at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.  For more info, click HERE.
