OKLAHOMA CITY -- Simple life saving skills were put to the test at 66 Bowl in Oklahoma City, after a young woman who had learned about First Aid in the Girl Scouts witnessed an emergency on the lanes.

The 20-year-old college student and long-time Girl Scout, works in the snack bar.

"There was kind of a commotion going on and I just looked out and someone had fallen down," employee Cassie Bouchereau said.

The woman slipped on the slick hardwood floors.

Bouchereau applied pressure to a wound on the older lady's lip and called 911. Paramedics told her the woman could have had significant blood loss.

"It was kind of grounding actually because I didn't realize how bad it was," Bouchereau said. "I was just doing what I thought should have been done at the time."

She was able to help the woman because of the first aid she learned in Girl Scouts.

For her quick thinking, the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma gave Bouchereau the Loretta Hinkle Award, which honors Scouts who've saved a life.

"We try to do things that help," said Susan Bohl of the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma. "They can respond when they're in situations like Cassie was in."

Bouchereau returned to her job as a cook, but is always ready with the simple skills she's learned to be put to the test.

The Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma said they always need volunteers.
