SPENCER, Oklahoma -- Cemeteries are serene places where we bury our loved ones, but not a place we would think of to see Christmas lights.

Precious Pets Cemetery believes that just because our pets have passed on, we can still remember them during the holidays.

Linda McCullough is co-owner of the cemetery. She said the decorations were started out of respect for the animals and the families that owned them.

"All the pets that are buried out here are very important to their family or they wouldn't have chosen to put them out here," McCullough said. "They usually celebrated Christmas with their pets, so this is just our gift back to our little pet owners to make it Christmassy and festive out here."

According to McCullough, people travel from near and far just to visit their best friends and to see the lights. One family, who moved out of state, always travels back to Spencer during the holidays just to decorate their little ones' grave.

"We have more visitation out here than you have in a human cemetery," McCullough said. "Part of the reason is the pet owners kind of feel like they're the parents, so they come out and visit."

Besides the typical pets like dogs and cats, Precious Pets Cemetery is the eternal resting place of fish, Boa Constrictors, horses and even a camel. Canine officers who served in the metro area are also buried here.

Everyone is welcome to come out and see the lights that decorate the graves of those who loved their owners completely and unconditionally.
