WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Oklahoma Senators Jim Inhofe and Dr. Tom Coburn were among 35 senators who voted to kill a $14 billion bailout for the auto industry.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate rejected the bill 52-35.

The UAW is blaming Republicans for the bill's failure, but Coburn, speaking on CNN Friday morning, says it is the other way around.

Coburn says the union refused to agree to a timetable to accept wage cuts and that is what doomed the bill to failure.

"The one issue that stopped this thing, and I will tell you, Republicans wanted to get this through, was over a competitive wage rate at some point and time," said U.S. Senator (R) Dr. Tom Coburn.

Coburn was interviewed by CNN Friday morning.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
