MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- A Midwest City police officer has shot a 19-year-old outside a convenience store.

Police Chief Brandon Clabes says the officer fired two rounds at Tyron Joe Jackson after Jackson allegedly tried to run over the officer while fleeing the scene of large fight.

Clabes says officers responded to a 7-Eleven store about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call. The officers pulled in behind a sport utility vehicle and attempted to stop the fight at gunpoint.

Clabes says Jackson jumped in the SUV, drove over a curb and sidewalk in front of the store and damaged the business. The chief says Jackson then put the vehicle in reverse, struck the building again and tried to run over the officer.

Jackson was treated at the scene for a minor graze wound to the head and arrested on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.

The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.

A nearby elementary school had to be put on lockdown, but police say no kids were in any harm.
