"Smudging is a ritual that has been around for thousands of years," Ghariani said. "It is used to clear a space or an environment of negative energy or a negative spirit. I've combined several different techniques as far as the smudging utilizing different aspects from Native American traditions as well as Christianity and different types of religions and philosophys."

The process involves herbs that are believed to hold sacred healing properties. There are different herbs that are utilized for different tasks.

"I actually use white sage," Ghariani said. "There are different types of sage. There are probably over 100 different types that you can use for this ritual."

Some believe that it is better for those who are experiencing the phenomena to perform the cleansing themselves.

"This is something you can do," Ghariani said. "You can actually do it if you want to release the spirit."

There are certain situations that might need someone with more experience to smudge.

"I have found that some clients call me down the road going, ‘I burned the sage and it just didn't work. Some things are still going on'," Ghariani said. "That's when we go in and go ahead and do a ritual smudging."
