High-Speed Chase Ends in Restaurant Parking Lot

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A high-speed chase ended abruptly when a vehicle with two men inside was forced into a Chili's restaurant parking lot at Portland Avenue near the Kilpatrick Turnpike at about 3:48 Friday.

It wasn't the first chase that happened in the Oklahoma City area, and because of how some of those previous chases turned out, authorities now use caution in how those chases are pursued.

Two men, 43-year-old David Borneman of Missouri and his 49-year-old brother Christopher, who was behind the wheel, were arrested without anyone getting hurt. The men led troopers along the turnpike moved so quickly it even took SkyNEWS 9 HD Pilot Mason Dunn by surprise.

"I'm still doing 125 miles an hour, just keeping up with this suspect running westbound on the Turner Turnpike," Dunn said.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol could relate.

"You get one of these every once and a while, but this was one of the worst ones I've seen probably in the last couple of years," Lt. Brett Key with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Troopers were hot on the trail of the gold Mitsubishi Galant barreling down the Turner Turnpike at breakneck speed after refusing to pull over for a routine traffic stop.

"At that time he accelerated to speeds anywhere from 115 to 130 miles an hour," Key said.

The chase went on for 20 long and dangerous minutes. Troopers on the ground took no action because of oncoming traffic.

"Towards the end of the pursuit we did have a helicopter up," Key said. "At that time we did back off the pursuit."

Once the men pulled off the turnpike and into a nearby Chili's restaurant, troopers tagged the car, pinning it next to two other parked vehicles.

"We took every step possible to make sure the public was safe," Key said.

Troopers found some marijuana inside the car and said the Borneman brothers have warrants out of Missouri and Arkansas.

Both men are being taken to Creek County jail and face extradition on those warrants. They're also facing charges of eluding police and drug possession.
