'Booming area' makes Moore optimistic

MOORE, Okla. -- In spite of the current economy struggles, new businesses continue to open in the metro.

Moore City leaders said the community's location, which is located off Interstate 35, has had a positive impact on their economic standing.

Best Buy recently opened in Moore, while other locations throughout the country continue to see decreasing sales.

"We have some high expectations for this location," said Best Buy Manager Derrick Murray.

Location has been the key factor for Moore's success, according to the city manager.

I-35, combined with a growing population, is proving to be the perfect recipe for success. Store managers told city leaders they are pleased with the progress.

"Sales are strong," City Manager Stephen Eddy said. "We're pretty well countering what we're hearing in the national news here."

Developers are still planning to open a new shopping center in the area, which will include Bed Bath & Beyond, Pet Smart and Chick-Fil-A. Sen. Anthony Sykes (R-District 24) said first impressions are also making a difference.

As the economy slows, city leaders of Moore remain optimistic. They call themselves progressive and forward thinking and plan to stay that way, which is a big selling point for big businesses.

The city manager also credits the citizens who continue to vote in favor of bond issues like the $18 million bond passed last week that will go toward five major street projects.
