Bridal party makeovers go to extremes

OKLAHOMA CITY -- These days, brides are going all out to make their wedding the best it can be. The perfect dress, the perfect place and of course everyone needs to look picture perfect.

But, many brides aren't stopping at up-dos and manicures; they're now doing bridal party makeovers.

Some may see it as all in good fun, but many think it a little extreme.

Thirty-three-year-old Jeanne An is planning her wedding and is all about keeping things fun.

"We're having cupcakes and videogames, and there will be a karaoke corner," Jeanne said.

But when it comes to the wedding pictures, she's not playing around. Jeanne wants to make sure she and her only bridesmaid, her 36-year-old sister Gui-Hyan, look as perfect as possible.

"It's my one wedding-- we're going to have a photographer come in and take pictures that will last forever."

So, before the big day, she had one little request for her sister: Botox.

"It's just another thing for us to do together, just like traveling or hanging out or going out for a bachelorette party," Jeanne said.

"They want to get rid of the fine lines and wrinkles," Howard Brooks, MD, Cosmetic Dermatologist, said.

Brooks said brides of all ages are parading into his practice.

"I had patients ask me, ‘Can I bring my bridal party in? I want them to have their lips done; I want their laugh lines filled in. I want Botox'," Brooks said.

According to spafinder.com, the number of bridal party makeovers jumped 25 percent over the past two years, and Botox isn't the only request.

"Face peels, spray tans, even nose jobs," Samantha Goldberg, Celebrity Wedding Planner, said.

Goldberg has seen it all in the quest for the perfect day. She said if everyone's on the same page, its fine, but she's seen some dreams turn to disasters.

"There have been several examples in my career where people have been 'quote unquote' blackballed or asked to step down from the throne by not participating in the Botox or breast enhancements," Goldberg said.

She believes there's often too much pressure for brides to have "The Hollywood Wedding," and it can lead to damaged relationships.

Brooks said it's critical to remember, these are still medical procedures and need to be taken seriously.

"If that patient or that bridesmaid does not want that procedure done or they don't need that procedure, I have to relate that to the patient and in turn tell the bride as well," Brooks said.

Jeanne's sister said she's more than willing, and is excited to bond with her sister over Botox.

"It's something that we've never done before; it's something new that we're going to experience together," Gui-Hyan said.

"It's just a part of getting married these days," Jeanne said. "It's fun and easy-- so why not?"

And guys-- don't get too comfy out there. Doctors said another trend they're seeing is brides who want their fiancés to head to the spa for a little Botox or chemical peel of their own. After all, you're going to be in those photos too.
