DEL CITY, Okla. -- A Del City middle school organized a special way to honor veterans by creating a Wall of Honor.

Pictures of those who have served cover the Wall; they are the faces of veterans.

"I had friends who did not come back," Veteran Frank James said. "They would really be honored today if they could see this."

The more than 80 veterans who are represented are family members of teachers and students, people who make their loved ones proud.

"My brother is serving now so it means a lot to me," a student said.

Emotions ran high as the holiday was celebrated.

"I looked at some of these pictures up here and I really got chocked up because I knew what a lot of those people went through," teacher Robert Turner said.

The Del Crest Middle School created the wall to show students, veterans are real people who make real sacrifices.

"I think it's important to pass down the heritage and everything they have taught us so we can teach our future generation about how important and how special veterans are," teacher Demetria McKinney said.

The students realized there was a lesson in respect here, and a lesson in life to learn.

"I think they're very selfless and they do a lot for our country and for us," student Brittany Cooper said.

Other students agreed.

"They're very brave to go out and fight when nobody asked them to, they just signed up for it," student Rebekah Dow said.

The next time the students are around veterans, they'll have a new understanding.

Del Crest Middle School hopes to have an even larger wall with more pictures next year.
