OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sales numbers from across the nation are down, so businesses are trying to lure more shoppers in with steep sales.

Shoppers are also taking advantage of the best buys by clipping coupons and scouring the Web for extra savings before the holidays.

"You're going to see competition because demand has been reduced," OCU economics professor Steve Agee said.

Reports show sales have slumped in the last month and some shoppers, like Consumer Queen's expert shopper Shannon Snow, are eyeing the bargains.

"I've been couponing for about two years now, and I've seen a drastic change in the whole budget," Snow said.

Snow is a mother of three and she looks for her bargains any way she can. Coupons, even for 50 cents to $1 off, quickly add up.

"You're saving a little bit here, a little bit there," Snow said. "I saved 103 percent with my coupons shopping at Homeland."

Snow said couponing is very easy to do. It takes time, but she has saved hundreds of dollars by using coupons, and in this shaky economy, every pinch helps.

"I think people don't want to take that extra time or effort, but it really does pay off in the long run," Snow said.
