MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- Residents in the Midwest City area got an early wakeup call from law enforcement Friday.

Midwest City Police along with Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office cracked down on those with outstanding warrants.

Law enforcement followed up on warrants stemming from assaults to small things like unpaid parking tickets, proving why you might not want to ignore those traffic tickets, even ones as small as a parking violation.

Officers went into neighborhoods knocking on doors and looking for those who've been ignoring them. And for some, those include fines as simple as unpaid traffic tickets.

"Our warrants are $57 to thousands of dollars depending on whether it's an unpaid seat belt violation to failure to comply, it should be any number of warrants," Midwest City Police Lt. Brian Baines said.

Police said some didn't even know they had warrants. One man's warrant stems from a DUI arrest back in 1983, 25-years-ago.

"We've arrested guys on old arrests, seatbelt warrants even, so it's always best if you think at all to call cause then you don't have an opportunity like this where they take you from your family," Midwest City Police Sgt. Tom Lantz said.

Police said while it may seem like some of the arrests were for petty fines, they said these people were notified multiple times but chose to ignore them.

Midwest City Police said during a four hour period 34 warrants were served and 22 people were booked into the jail.
