EDMOND, Okla. -- A brutal attack in an Edmond park that happened last Halloween has police still searching for clues. In the afternoon on Oct. 31, 2007, a 72-year old woman was severely beaten while on a walk.

Authorities are still investigating what they are calling a random act of violence, and they're asking for the public's help to find the person who committed this crime.

"I like to make sure I'm with somebody, and just feel a lot safer that way," jogger Kristen Kramer said.

Safer because she and so many others remember what happened on the trails at Mitch Park in Edmond last Halloween.

"The day that it happened, I got a text message from another friend that knows we walk out here and said ‘Someone was attacked at the park and be careful and don't go out there alone,'" jogger Kelly Kempton said.

Police said the 72-year-old woman was attacked with a pipe on a trail. She ended up with broken bones and facial fractures. At first, people saw her covered in blood but did not help.

"It was Halloween and they thought it might be some sort of prank," Edmond Police Detective Chad Langley said.

The attacker stopped when a witness started yelling. Then, the attacker fled the scene and escaped. A year later, police only have a sketch of the suspect. He's still on the run, and police have little to go on.

"We just couldn't find any link to someone who would want to hurt her, so right now we're working off of it that it might have been a random act of violence," Detective Langley said.

Authorities recommend people, especially women, always exercise with a partner or group, never alone. Carrying a whistle or alert button are other way to stay safe and notify other when you're in trouble.

"After hearing that it's like ‘No, I will never be out here by myself.' I will always have someone with me," jogger Sue Ann Green said.

The victim is still scared but she is doing fine. Her name and witnesses names will not be released.

Police said the attacker is describes as a white male, slim build, around 6 feet tall with dark hair. Call 359-4466 if you have any information about the incident.
