CARIBOU (AP) -- Mainers will see sunny skies and a bit of a warmup today after parts of the state got their first taste of white, wintry weather.
Up to 6 inches of snow were on the ground yesterday in some parts of the St. John Valley.
Mal Walker of the National Weather Service in Caribou says the higher the elevation, the deeper the snow. Walker says the highest amounts of snow, three to six inches, were in the extreme northwestern part of the state.
In Fort Kent and St. Francis, 4 inches of snow fell. St. Agatha got 3.5 inches, while 3 inches fell in Allagash and Clayton Lake.
