OKLAHOMA CITY- - Local singer songwriter Carter Sampson said country is her roots, but her music has been referred to as folk rock and Americana. Her third album leans towards those country roots. For Sampson, it's just about making good music.

"It's just always kind of been a part of me," Sampson said. "I went to music school as a preschooler and I just kind of grew up around it."

Sampson realized at an early age what she wanted to do with her life.

"I think from the time I was 13, 14-years-old. I started playing guitar at 15," Sampson said. "I always sang and was performing in one way or another."

She is at the point in her career where she wants to branch out by exploring new venues and heading out of state for shows.

"I travel around, all over the state. I'm starting to get out and play some other places to," Sampson said. "I just got back from Portland, Oregon this summer and it was a lot of fun."

If you live in the Oklahoma City area, there are plenty of opportunities to catch Sampson and her guitar skills live.

"I'm going to be at ‘The Girlie Show'. It's a local art show that's going to be at the Oklahoma City Farmer's Market. It's November 7 and 8," Sampson said. "Then, that night I'm opening for Mama Sweet at The Speak Easy."

Sampson said that if she wasn't a singer and a songwriter, she would be completely lost.

"I don't know what else I would do. I really, I've tried to think of a real job, but there's nothing. I can't imagine sitting in an office or having to wake up at a certain time and go to meetings," Sampson said.

Carter Sampson will be having a CD release party at Galileo Bar and Grill on November 15. To listen to some more of Sampson's music, click the video links to the right.
